Both our daughter and son shared an experience that they say was one of the most significant of their college careers. After several rounds of interviews, both were hired (several years apart) to be official representatives of the university they attended. As part of this select group of students, they embarked on a new adventure, experiencing the University in a whole new way.
In order to become representatives or ambassadors, they spent an entire semester in training: Learning the history of the University; familiarizing themselves with the university resources; learning how to approach prospective students and their families, as well as how to answer any questions about the institution.
As representatives, they were the people with whom future students and families would spend time; they were responsible for the first impression that was being made. Their words and actions as they gave tours, were a reflection of the school they represented. Their admiration and respect for the institution became evident; it was reflected in their behavior and it automatically drew countless others to want to experience the University for themselves.
I can’t help but ponder how this relationship is similar to our relationship with Christ. Do you know that you too, have been chosen? Jesus chose YOU! Mathew 28:19 says, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Nations are made up of individuals; people like you and me. Disciples are simply students or ambassadors. So how well do you know the one of which you are called to be a student; the one you are to represent?
How well do you represent Jesus? What kind of impression are you making on those around you; the people you interact with? Whether those are your good friends or complete strangers with whom you cross paths, are they being drawn to want to know Jesus for themselves, based upon their interactions with you? Do they experience Jesus and His love, kindness and grace, as they connect with you?
If not, maybe it is time to become a student, to study and get to know Jesus. A great place to begin is simply to pray; talk with Jesus; ask Him to teach you and then get in to the Bible. Only then will you come to know who He really is and be equipped to represent Him. It will undoubtedly lead to the greatest experience of your life; a personal, thriving and fulfilling relationship with God.
