Do you find yourself troubled about the current upheaval in our world – the global pandemic, the hard hit economy, and most importantly, the deeply troubling issue of racism? If so, you’re not alone.
I have no doubt that God will provide what we need to move forward, despite the coronavirus and the troubles with our economy. However, to provide racial justice for black men, women and children, I believe God is calling each one of us to do everything we can, to become part of the solution.
To work towards that end, we must start with one thing; we must look at ourselves and how we’ve contributed to the problem. God’s Word says it this way, rather than focus on the speck of dust in another’s eye, take the plank out of your own. (Matthew 7:5)
Consequently, I’m taking a hard look at my own life. Sadly, I’m seeing how I’ve (unknowingly) been part of a system that perpetuates racism. I’ve been oblivious, and unconsciously held onto the racial prejudices and narratives I was raised with. And that sickens me. It humbles me. It reminds me how desperately I need God’s mercy and grace…and, how much work I have to do.
Therefore, the cry of my heart is this, “Lord, Help me to love others well, as You do. Help our world to establish and maintain racial justice, and lead me to be an integral part of achieving that. Uproot all prejudices I’ve continued to hold onto, so when others interact with me, they’ll experience You and Your perfect love.” – Amen.
