Can you believe we are coming up on Easter?

One of my favorite weekends of the year! We so enjoy celebrating the resurrection of Christ and the hope that comes with it. That’s what new life does: gives us hope.

Even the words new life feel fresh, don’t they? That got me thinking about all of the events, seasons, or days we experience the reality of new life springing up. New Year’s Day with it’s new rhythms, our birthdays as we start a new year of life, a birth of a child, the first sign of Spring-all visible signs of hope.

You know the feeling, right?

If you live in Iowa (or other frigid places) and you’ve been cooped up all winter, the first time you lace up your sneakers for a walk in 50 degree weather you feel like you could take on the world! Hope seems more within grasp the first day of Spring, the first day of a new diet, starting out a new year… but what if we gave ourselves permission to take a hold of that truth in the everyday? In the 2 am feedings, in rush hour traffic, or do I dare say the dead of winter? 🙂

It may not feel fresh every time, or like lacing up those sneakers, but I believe experiencing new life and the power of the resurrection is always available to us. We read it in Lamentations (3:22-23 NRSV) “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” And part of our journey in learning to live wholeheartedly is believing that verse, His promise, isn’t just for everybody else — but for us too. How would life look differently if we didn’t reserve celebrating His hope only for Easter?

Yes, on Easter Sunday… His mercies are new. And what about that flat tire? His mercies are new. A conversation that didn’t go as you had hoped? His mercies are new.

We can speak hope to our hearts today, friends. Let’s do it!
