Are You Missing This?

When I think of sacrifices, I think of giving my time and my money to help others – especially  when it’s not convenient. However, I’m learning about a more difficult sacrifice.

In an online Bible Study yesterday morning, I read that letting go of control, is a type of sacrifice to God. I’d never thought of it quite like that, but after pondering it, I think it’s probably one of the most difficult  types of sacrifices.

For example, I really want to control my husband’s stage four, pancreatic cancer. I want to make it go away! But I can’t.

Several years ago, God gave me a vivid picture in my mind; the two of us (God and I) were in a car. He was in the driver’s seat, and I was sitting next to him, in the passenger’s seat. However, I had a bright yellow, plastic steering wheel that was suction-cupped to the dashboard. I had my hands on it with a firm grip, and I was frantically turning it one way and then the other. He periodically looked over at me and winked. I realized right then, how laughable it was for me to think that I was in control.

What about you? What is it that you so badly want to control: your kids, your finances, your health or something else? Whatever it may be, we can receive God’s greatest blessings, as we sacrifice our control and let Him take the wheel. As we do, we can actually learn to sit back and enjoy the ride. We can marvel at the scenic views – those we’d miss, if we were in the driver’s seat. (Psalm 91:1-2 NLT)
