Some of my favorite movies are classics, like “the Sound of Music,” and “It’s a Wonderful Life.” However, I also like movies that provide a strong voice for justice or victory for an underdog – like “Erin Brokovich” and “The Blind Side.”
I’m also a hopeless romantic, so I enjoy “You’ve Got Mail,” “Runaway Bride” and of course “Father of the Bride.”
Nonetheless, even with all of those great movies in mind, my all-time-favorite is a movie from 2007; “Dan in Real Life” is a realistic story about the challenges and blessings of a large extended family. It starred Steve Carell (from “The Office”), Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook, among others.
I think it’s my favorite because it incorporates the qualities I enjoy the most. It’s a moving story but some parts are hilarious – I mean wet your pants funny (the post-exercise stretching scene and the juke box/dance scene in the pool lounge). It’s also romantic, and, it has a happy ending. I always prefer a happy ending.
When you think about it, our lives are a lot like a movie. (Some days more so than others, right?) Our story had a beginning, we’re somewhere in the middle of it, and someday it’ll have an ending.
I often envision the happy ending I hope for, which is to be embraced by God and to hear the words, “Alicia, you trusted me too much.” Let’s be serious…that’s likely NOT going to happen! Nevertheless, it’s what I’m aiming for.
What about you? What’s your favorite movie, and what’s the ending you hope for? I’d love to hear!
